Psithurisma, n: Whispering; a whispering noise.

~ Cool, huh? “The psithurisma of the early morning breeze tiptoed past her ear and nearly broke her dreaming.” Or something.

Ah, a lovely long word I don’t know! That is to say, a gift! I shall add “psithurisma” to my word-hoard and look for a chance to employ it.

My tongue has a hard time with this one, but I like it.

Great word… but a bit challenging to work into my novel.

    • I am told strength rejoices in the challenge! Excelsior and all that … 🙂

      • jubilare says:

It’s hard for linguaphiles, of which I am one, to stomach, but in storytelling, simplicity is so often better. In conversation, however, I can try to revive as many of our fading words as suits my fancy and confuses my conversation partners! 🙂

      • Oh, it’s certainly not a word one can nonchalantly toss about like dwarves. But it’s a fun word to say, and a fun word to know, and when/if you ever come across it in poetry or literature, you will thank your stars I posted it 🙂
